The Royal Horticultural Society

Britain’s gardening charity, the Royal Horticultural Society, has a long and interesting history dating from 1804. Founded under the title The Horticultural Society of London, by Sir Joseph Banks and John Wedgwood, its aim was to collect plant information and encourage the improvement of horticultural practice.

The Royal Horticultural Society is the UK’s leading gardening charity dedicated to advancing horticulture and promoting good gardening. Royal Horticultural Society’s goal is to help people share a passion for plants, to encourage excellence in horticulture and inspire all those with an interest in gardening. The Royal Horticultural Society is one of the worlds leading horticultural organisations and the UK’s leading gardening charity.

Royal Horticultural Society’s mission is to be the leading organisation demonstrating excellence in horticulture and promoting gardening. To achieve this, they have adopted a three-year strategy to build on the value of horticulture to contemporary life and help people get more out of gardens and gardening. Their current strategy is based on six driving
and sustaining goals which guide the direction of the Society and the activities they undertake to achieve that direction.
