CABI is a not for profit, intergovernmental organization that improves people’s lives worldwide by providing information and applying scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture and the environment. Their mission and direction is influenced by over 40 member countries that help guide the activities undertaken as a business. CABI started as a commonwealth organization in the early 20th Century in a small way, but soon developed into a world service in agricultural information, pest identification and biocontrol.

CABI’s Global Plant Clinic has been instrumental in diagnosing a disease devastating the Christmas tree population in Saint Lucia. A team from the Global Plant Clinic, diagnosed a fungal disease wreaking havoc on the evergreen tree species Cupressus lusitanica (White Cedar) commonly used as a Christmas tree on the island nation.
